COMMUNITY HUB
CRÈCHE, GYM AND BOUTIQUE
In the Jura watchmaking village of Le Brassus, which has been profoundly shaped by new developments in the watchmaking and precision engineering industries, we are designing a community center that will house a crèche, store and sports hall.
This project tackles the challenge of sustainability in a village context, where vernacular traditions interface with high-tech industry. In this very specific context, we created a set of articulated volumes that interweave to produce a spatial continuum. This gesture generates a wide variety of spaces, both collective and private.
The project’s form and materiality influence each other, resulting in sustainable construction solutions and technical features such as a roof surface optimized for solar energy, and light local wood framing and cladding that follow the curves of the volumes and their mixed program. These choices anchor this community building in its local context, while providing the community with new, playful spaces.
