ATELIER – CRYPTOGAME I / LE TOIT – 15.06.2022
Join us next Wednesday! As part of our residency at @utopiana.geneve , we are exploring the ways in which the building elements that surround us could perform other functions and potentially host a wide variety of living beings, animals and/or plants. The dualism and the mechanistic thinking that have brought about the architecture of modernity are called to be overcome. Construction, like all fields of civil society, is called upon to provide solutions to the ecological crises we are facing. It is expected that our building actions serve both humans and non-humans, not by separating one from the other, but by allowing the conciliation of both.

The roof, the wall, the window, the floor, the foundation are all architectural devices that have very specific roles in architecture. Generally speaking, they allow mediation with the environment and the atmosphere. However, these devices are all too often monofunctional; they each fulfill a simple function of protection from the outside. They are like a shell and they serve to protect us; from rain, wind, predators, light, the gaze of others.

And if the roof could become a shelter for birds? The window a hatching pole for plants? The wall a connector between inside and outside?
